Cadillac . How to Fix a Broken Astro's Gas Tank BoltThe gas tank bolts that hold your Chevy Astro's gas tank retaining straps in place serve an important structural function; however, when these bolts break, your gas tank can hang down, away from the car chassis, causing undue stress on the fuel lines. Replacement straps (if needed) and bolts can be purchased from most auto parts stores. Fixing a bolt involves extracting it from the chassis and replacing it with a new, undamaged bolt. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Bolt extraction kit Drill New bolt Socket wrench Socket set Step by Step : 1 Select the right size bolt extractor drill bit and secure it to the drill chuck. The bit should be just slightly smaller than the bolt head you are drilling into. 2 Drill into the center of the bolt head or bolt that is broken on your gas tank, about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch. 3 Put the drill in reverse and back the drill bit out. The bolt will come out, as the extractor bit has teeth on it that grab onto the bolt, pulling it out. 4 Thread the new bolt into the gas tank hanger strap and tighten it with a socket wrench.
Cadillac . What Are the Signs That There Is Sugar in Your Gas Tank?Cars are convenient; they get us from one place to another without worry. However, when our car shows signs of having problems, it can get costly to fix them and cause a lot of stress. Worse then your ordinary car troubles, sometimes pranksters or even an ex-spouse can sabotage your vehicle, causing even more problems. A common prank against car owners is the old sugar in the gas tank trick, because many believe that this will cause your engine to burn. While it is a nasty trick to pull, the effects are not all that troublesome. Identification A few different ways to tell if someone put sugar in your gas tank exist. The most common way for you to identify the problem is actually to see sugar granules in your gas tank chamber when you open the tank. You might even see it on the pavement by your car. Since the hole is quite small, accidentally spilling the sugar is common. Sometimes the culprit will even tell you that she put sugar in your gas tank. If someone holds a grudge against you, she likely will want to rub it in your face. By bringing your car into an automotive shop, you can find out if someone actually put sugar in your gas tank, and a mechanic will discuss the various options available to you. Effects You will notice a few problems with your car if someone puts sugar in your gas tank. The most common effects are stalling of your vehicle and not being able to start your car at all. Many people assume that the car has run out of gas when sugar gets put in their gas tanks. The effects are similar, so you must try to identify your problem as early on as possible. Significance As AA1Car Diagnostic and Repair points out, since sugar will not dissolve in gasoline it will cause your vehicle problems and can cause damages. The sugar gets clogged up in your fuel filter, blocking gas from having the ability to travel through the filter to reach your engine. That's why you experience the effects of running out of gas, stalling or not getting your car started. Likely you will have to replace the fuel filter or, if you have not started the car since you noticed the sugar, get it towed to a shop nearby and ask them to drop the gas tank and get the sugar out. Misconceptions A common misconception about sugar in your gas tank makes the problem much worse then it really gets. On Car Talk notes the myth that since sugar does not dissolve in gasoline it will harden in the engine and the whole engine will combust. However, the sugar will never reach your engine as a set of filters block debris from traveling that far. Prevention In order to prevent someone from putting sugar in your gas tank, just simply get a lockable cap that only the key holder can access. This way you can get rest assured that no one ends up pulling pranks on you or your vehicle. Make sure you keep the key away from anybody who has a grudge against you, or that gets jealous of your vehicle. *Firing order Don't confuse cylinder sequence with firing order. Although your engine may have its cylinders in simple numerical sequence, if the cylinders were fired in that order, the engine would rock violently as first the cylinders on one side (or toward the front) fired in rapid succession, and then the other cylinders did likewise. To avoid this, the firing order is carefully arranged to distribute the shock of combustion evenly throughout the engine. The cylinders fire in very swift sequence, and the result is a fairly stable engine. A typical firing order for a Ford V-8 engine (with cylinders #1 to #4 on one side and cylinders #5 to #8 on the other) would be #1, #5, #4, #2, #6, #3, #7, #8. The firing order is printed inside each of the engines shown in Figures 12-2 through 12-8. Trace the path of combustion back and forth throughout each of these engines so you can see how the shock of combustion is distributed to avoid rocking the engine. Remember, the whole thing happens very rapidly. '>art'"' ^eeP'n9 ^our Car m G°°d Condition, System by System Removing the spark plugs 506

To label your wires, place a piece of masking tape or a clothespin on the spark plug wire near the boot that covers the tip of each plug. Put the proper cylinder number on each one. If you also label the boot where each wire enters the distributor cap terminal, you'll never be unsure about hooking things up properly. (Of course, if you make it a habit to remove the wire from only one plug at a time and to put it back before you remove another, you won't ever get into trouble — unless another wire comes off accidentally.) One way to royally confuse yourself and make the relatively simple task of changing spark plugs into a nightmare is to pull all your spark plugs out at one time. To keep your sanity and to avoid turning this job into an all-weekend project, work on one spark plug at a time: Remove it, inspect it, clean it, and, if it's salvageable, gap it. Then replace it — before you move on to the next spark Cadillac . Is car an object or thing?
Oldsmobile Alero. * plug. After you label the wires, follow these steps to remove each spark plug: 1. Gently grasp a spark plug wire by the boot, where it connects to the spark plug. Never yank on the wire itself (you can damage the wiring); just grasp the boot, twist it, and pull it straight out so that you can pull it off the plug. The shiny thing sticking out of the engine block is the terminal of the spark plug. Figure 12-10, later in this chapter, shows you all the parts of a spark plug, including the terminal. 2. Use a nice soft rag or a small paint brush to clean around the area where the spark plug enters the block — or you can blow the dirt away with a soda straw. Doing so keeps loose junk from falling down the hole into the cylinder when the plug is removed. 3. Find your spark plug socket (the big one with the rubber lining) and place it down over the spark plug; exert some pressure while turning it slightly to be sure that it's all the way down. Like everything else in auto repair, don't be afraid to use some strength. But do it in an even, controlled manner. If you bang or jerk things, you can damage them, but you'll never get anywhere if you tippy-toe around. Cadillac . Car idels to fast after its warm?

Pick up your ratchet handle and stick the square end into the square hole in the spark-plug socket. If you can work more comfortably by adding a couple of extensions between the handle and the socket so that you can move the handle freely from side to side without hitting anything, go ahead. You add them in the same way you added the socket to the handle. (If you have trouble with getting the plug loose, see the "Dealing with difficult plugs" section, which follows, for encouragement.) The little knob on the back of the ratchet handle makes the ratchet turn the socket either clockwise or counterclockwise) You can tell which way the handle will turn the plug by listening to the clicks that the handle makes when you move it in one direction. If it clicks when you move it to the right, it will turn the socket counterclockwise when you move it, silently, to the left. If the clicks are audible on the leftward swing, it will move the socket clockwise on the rightward swing. Every screw, nut, Cadillac . Which brand released hybrid cars?
